1969
Bobby Solo's 'Zingara' gets to the top of the charts in March 1969 in Rio de Janeiro. It had been 3 years since Jimmy Fontana's 'Il mondo' had been #1 in December 1965. Italian music had been on the slide ever since. 1968 had no Italian hits whatsoever and then 'Zingara' broke the drought in 1969.
Bobby Solo was the only Italian act who had two Number One hits in Brazil. 'Una lacrima sul viso' actually was just barred from being #1 by Rita Pavone's 'Datemi un martello' in 1964; in 1965 Bobby had a #1 with 'Se piangi, se ridi' and in 1969 he had his second #1 with 'Zingara'.
